Dean Ackerman: My professional electronics career began as an electronics technician in the engineering department of the "Electronics Division of Kimball International." At Vincennes University I have developed many of the manuals and circuits used in our electronics labs, prepared many of the electronics projects built by our students, coordinated and taught a large number of the department's electronics courses, as well as the computer maintenance and computer interfacing courses. I have helped to develop curriculums for our department, such as the Computer Repair Option and the Computer Networking Option. I have an associates degree in electronics, a BS in Vocational-Technical Education, and an MS in Secondary Vocational Education. My present faculty rank is Professor of Electronics, and in the Fall of 1999, I was appointed as the Department Chairman of the Electronics Department. My latest endeavors have been to coordinate the building of new electronics labs in the new Technology Center and was chosen to be the first "Presidential Fellow" of Vincennes University in the Spring of 2004. My commitment to my students can best be phrased as a question: "How may I assist you with your career goals?" |

Dave Tyree: My career in Electronics began in 1968 with an A.A.S. Degree. After ten years as an Electronics Technician for the phone company and a television manufacturer, I decided to continue my education. I first received an A.S. Degree in Laser Electro-optics and then proceeded to work towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, while working at Los Alamos National Laboratories. Coming to work at VU in 1981, I found teaching to be the most rewarding work that I had ever done. I changed my major to technical education and I now hold both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in that area. |

Mike Wehrman: If you would have told me 12 years ago that I would be an instructor at Vincennes University, I never would have believed you. I had dreams of being a rock and roll star. But, now that I look back at it, it kind of makes sense. My father worked here for 25 years. My mother has worked here. You might say I've grown up at Vincennes University. As a matter of fact, the day my father retired was the day I started my career at V.U. That was 1993 and I had just graduated from the Electronics- Computer Repair Program. The Electronics department hired me to work as the parts room technician. My job was to order and supply parts to students as well as fix all the electronics equipment used in the classrooms. In 1995 I was transferred to a Computer Technician position for the Technology division. I was responsible for over 200 computers in a position that required networking, computer repair, ordering hardware, and anything else they could think of. In 1999 I became a Microsoft MCSE on Windows NT 4.0 and began teaching the first Microsoft Networking classes at Vincennes University. Since that time the program has grown into a Microsoft IT Academy and I obtained my Cisco CCNA, CompTIA's A+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE in Windows 2000 as well as Windows 2003. It's not quite the same thing as being a rock and roll star, but at least I'm still in front of an audience and … this audience can't leave without getting counted absent. |
